Join us at the Geothermal and District Heating Conference

10 - 12 June 2025 in Tallinn, Estonia

"Geothermal Opportunities for the Baltics"

The Geological Survey of Estonia (EGT) is organizing through the EU-funded Horizon Europe twinning project "Enhancing research capacity at the Geological Survey of Estonia to accelerate the country's transition to green energy (EGT-TWINN)" a two-day (June 10–11, 2025) hybrid conference in Tallinn, dedicated to geothermal energy exploration and usage in sedimentary and crystalline rocks, with speakers from United Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. On June 12th, an exciting excursion to Arbavere Research Center and Roosna-Alliku will take place.

The conference will be held at the Hestia Hotel Europa, located conveniently close to the Tallinn downtown area. The Old Town of Tallinn is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The conference builds upon the experience from the previous highly successful Critical Raw Materials conference, with an attendance of 100 participants onsite and 50 online.

The conference is co-organized by the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, the British Geological Survey, the Geological Survey of Finland, and Oulu University.

Sessions

We have put together an exciting program with over 25 invited speakers to cover the state-of-the-art in low-enthalpy geothermal exploration and district heating utilizing shallow to deep sedimentary and crystalline rocks.

The conference is organized in the following sessions:

  1. Geothermal energy exploration and utilization in crystalline rocks
  2. Geothermal energy exploration and utilization in sedimentary rocks
  3. Geothermal energy exploration in the Baltic States
  4. District heating and future prospects in geothermal heating and cooling
  5. Environmental aspects of geoenergy exploration and national policies

This conference is organized within the EGT-TWINN project, an international geological research cooperation for Estonia's green transition between EGT, GTK, GEUS, BGS, University of Oulu. Funded through the Horizon Europe program.
